Bhogle and Chappell
February 5, 2008
Bhogle: Vaas is back at this end now. He’s like a little kid in a chocolate shop. Doesn’t know which end he wants.
A typically Navjyot Sidhu-ish line. Which doesn’t do even Bhogle much credit.
Chappell: Vaas is probably more suited to low and slow pitches these days than quick, bouncy ones with no seam movement like the ‘Gabba.
Exactly right I say to myself, once he’s said it. Chappell can always be counted on to give the listener that little bit of extra insight (and this is not the best example). Not something that can be said of Messrs Gavaskar or Shastri. In fact, I reckon that the field of machine intelligence has progressed to the stage where Shastri’s commentary can probably be automated.

Bhogle seems to have regressed in the recent past. Which reminds of me of the post I need to do on the best commentator I’ve heard. Ralph Lawler is a genius. So little time.

Who’s Ralph Lawler? Actually, I feel that football commentators tend to be better in general than cricket commentators. Maybe it’s because you don’t need too many since it’s a much shorter game.

Yes it’s easier to get 2 good commentators rather than 8. Watch a Los Angeles Clippers basketball telecast; I think he’s on FSN Prime Ticket and KTLA. Can’t find anything on him on Youtube.

Thanks, straight point. Having heard Shastri for so many years now, these days I almost cringe in denial before hearing those oft-repeated phrases: “Having done all the hard work”, “Edged and taken!”, “We’ll have to wait for the umpire’s decision”, etc.

Bhogle is just plain annoying these days. The flat of my hand begs to be introduced to the geek of his face everytime I see him.
Where’s the BBC test match special commentry team when you need them>
